PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR MAIN TASKS

  • Lead and direct the Signalling Scheme Development Engineering team to ensure that the company scheme development workload is delivered by a competent and efficiently organised resource.
  • As required, undertake the equivalent role of Contractors Responsible Engineer - Signalling for items in the relevant development phase
  • Ensure the development of deliverable scheme proposals, including option development, in response to client supplied output specifications, statements of requirements and / or Outline Project Specifications

  • Ensure the delivery of the complete package of development phase contract deliverables in accord with the required timescales, to include the following as appropriate: option reports, HAZOP / ALARP reviews, scheme plans / control tables, HSQ&E plans, OPS Documents, Possession Strategy documentation, Pricing documents and QRA reports, etc;
  • lead the production of appropriately detailed target price packages, budget estimate prices or level X estimates for internal review and client submission.
  • In close liaison with the Planning Manager, produce appropriately detailed resourcing plans and programmes for items in the development phase, achieving outline deployment and cost reimbursement proposals;
  • Ensure as necessary the collation and transmission of progress information from Scheme Development Engineers occurs within the timescales specified;
  • Contribute to the process of standards review from an engineering perspective for items in the development phase, ensuring through close liaison with the Signal Engineer and their Project Engineering team that full and complete compliance / action planning for compliance is achieved
  • Direct the processes necessary for competence management of the engineering workforce deployed for Signalling Scheme Development that are subject to the Railway Safety Critical Work Regulations and related client standards;
  • Identify and process in accord with corporate procedures the training needs of the Signalling Scheme Development Engineering workforce

Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Signalling / Senior Project Manager you will be accountable for providing technical overviews, taking a lead on scope, design input and control, manage input from internal and external engineers, evaluation and selection of suitable solutions to technical / signalling issues, delivery of work packages, close liaison with the systems engineering, safety, operational and engineering teams to ensure effective delivery of all engineering and technical issues. You will be required to forge strong professional relationships with colleagues, clients and their representatives and ensure delivery to time, quality, cost and safety criteria.

Requirements:

  • It is envisaged that successful candidates will be a Degree qualified in Electronic / Electrical Engineering and ideally a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, although candidates with a HNC/HND qualification coupled with demonstrable experience will also be considered. You should hold a current IRSE licence in a relevant discipline and a thorough understanding and appreciation of signalling design.
  • You will have proven experience as a Project Engineer on mainline or underground / metro signalling systems and have a full appreciation of other rail systems including LVAC/HVAC or traction supplies, Communications, Rolling Stock and System Integration activities.
  • You experience should include major resignalling schemes including complex stageworks and a detailed knowledge of signalling principles on either mainline or underground networks.
  • For the roles pertaining to the underground system, preference will be given to applicants who have a solid understanding of ATP / ATO / ATC systems on metro signalling schemes.

  • Assisting our Rail client in obtaining and maintaining Link-Up approval for execution of OHLE works as part of electrification projects and programmes.

  • Supporting a number of tenders and projects in the 25kV railway electrification.
  • Develop work scope/action plan for undertaking OHLE works as part of AC railway electrification projects; this includes tendering, equipment renewals, upgrades and replacements; new electrification projects utilising 25kV AC overhead systems Undertaking the determination of the design scope and the subsequent preparation of the valuation of design elements of OHLE works as part of the tendering process. Developing detail OHLE design and/or providing Design Assurance
  • Interfacing with Clients in respect of all aspects of the OHLE works design activities undertaken by the Design Teams

You will be responsible for the supervised production of GRIP 2 to 4 track models, layouts and permanent way calculations for enhancements and renewals, prepare reports, technical papers, tender documentation, etc as necessary.

To be considered for this role you must have experience in designing track alignment using MicroStation CAD ( 2D and 3D ), Bentley Rail Track and/or Bentley MX suite of design tools. Working knowledge of Track Design Handbook NR/L2/TRK/2049 and basic knowledge of track design principles. Therefore previous experience in Railway Engineering is essential for this role.

  • Experience in the UK Rail Sector including London Underground would be an added advantage.
